Qatar Airways announces direct Luxembourg-Doha flights
Luxembourg and Doha, the capital of Qatar, will soon be connected with direct flights by Qatar Airways.
Akbar Al Baker, chief executive at Qatar Airways, made the announcement during the International Tourism Fair in Berlin on Wednesday, stating that the company would be the "first Persian Gulf airline to offer direct flights to Luxembourg".
The route could be an attractive one not only for passengers but also cargo, as Qatar Airways includes a fleet of 'belly capacity' aircraft, where cargo can be transported under the passenger deck.
Luxembourg Airport responded to the announcement with a Tweet that Qatar Airways would "start Doha to LuxAirport in 2018 or 2019", adding that nothing was bookable yet.
The Qatar Airways website does not yet show direct flights between the two cities, but it is possible book indirect flights in collaboration with Luxair.
These show a stop in either Berlin or Munich en route for Doha.
Luxembourg was not the only new destination Qatar Airways announced during the tourism fair in Berlin, as the airline plans an "aggressive expansion" of 16 new destinations around the world in 2018-19.
More information should soon be available on the airline's website: qatarairways.com
