Two Luxembourg films on Oscar nomination shortlist
(This story was corrected on February 11 to say that the films have been shortlisted for an Oscar nomination, rather than already been nominated for an Oscar award.)
Two films produced by companies in Luxembourg have been shortlisted for a nomination for an Oscar award, the country's Film Fund said on Wednesday.
Luxembourg subsidizes its film industry with taxpayer funds and while a handful of the features are set within the Grand Duchy, many are by foreign directors and aim at an audience abroad.
In 2014, the Luxembourg-produced "Mr Hublot" won an Oscar for best animated short film.
This year, Collective, co-produced by Luxembourg firm Samsa Film, has been shortlisted for a nomination for an award in the best documentary and best international film category at the prestigious Hollywood awards.
The Romanian documentary, directed by Alexander Nanau, also won a European Film Prize for the best documentary of the year.
The second film, Deux, is a candidate to receive an award in the best international film category. The film, which tells the story of two women who fall in love, was co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg.
It was also selected for a number of prizes at the 2021 Cesar awards, including best actress for Martine Chevalier and Barbara Sukowa and best original screenplay.
