Unemployment stable in October
Unemployment remained stable in Luxembourg in October when 7 percent of the population was out of work, figures reveal.
According to the monthly report from the Luxembourg Ministry for Work and Employment, the unemployment rate remained unchanged from September to October 2013.
The rate, however, hides the fact that with growing immigration to Luxembourg, the total number of people out of work is also rising.
The government report showed that a further 2,322 people were unemployed in Luxembourg in October, 2013, than the same month in 2012, bringing the total tally to 17,516.
In October 2012, Luxembourg recorded a 6.2 percent unemployment rate.
Last month, the number of people receiving full unemployment benefits reached 7,334, up from 7,267 in September. This figure rose by 15 percent compared with October 2012.
Employment office ADEM recorded fewer vacancies in October (2,590) than in September (2,149).
The number of posts unfilled at the end of the month was 2,897.
