(CS) US Ambassador to Luxembourg Robert A. Mandell said on Sunday evening that he has followed the elections with interest and that it was a “great experience” to witness the events unfold first hand.

Not every ambassador gets to experience elections in the country where they serve, but Robert A. Mandell said at the big elections event at Luxexpo on Sunday evening that he has met with members of all political parties to discuss their policies and campaigns.

However, he added that the US government does not get involved in elections. “We let countries decide,” he said, but he will be ready to liaise between the new Luxembourg government and the US side once the voters have decided.

While the political events earlier this year sent shock-waves through Luxembourg, which is known for stable governments, the ambassador said that there was little “trauma” over the issue in the US, considering that elections were set to be held mid-2014 in any case.

Whatever the outcome of the October 20 elections, the US government is ready to work with Luxembourg, Mandell said.
