(HRW) On Monday afternoon a tragic accident occurred involving a digger colliding with a worker on a site located on rue Alexis Heck in Diekirch.

The accident happened when the driver of the digger swung the vehicle's shovel to unload earth and rubble from a nearby truck, but did not see a co-worker.

The digger's shovel hit the man with full force throwing him hard against the truck's trailer and leaving him with serious injuries.

The Portuguese worker, aged 39, later died at the scene of the accident.

A Luxembourg Air Rescue helicopter was dispatched to the site, resulting in the complete closure of the road during peak time and led to severe traffic delays on the city centre bypass.
