Young man killed in car crash

A young man died after losing the control of the car he was driving and crashing, sideways into a tree.

The collision occurred at 8.20am on "rue Principal" between Niederfuelen and Mertzig, close to Diekirch. According to police, the car span out of control on a bend. The driver's side took the full force of the crash against the tree.

By the time emergency services had freed the driver, he had died of his injuries. The young man was aged in his mid-twenties and from Holtz, Luxembourg.

The road was closed for more than two hours during salvage operations.
