(CS) Yves Mersch has joined a growing rank of critics within the European Central Bank, a German newspaper has claimed, following board member Jörg Asmussen, who recently spoke out against the lowering of interest rates.

According to information obtained by German newspaper “Die Welt”, Mersch objects to several aid-measures for eurozone countries in crisis, including the purchase of structured securities to relieve banks' balance sheets or a weakening of security frameworks for banks.

The opposition to proposals from within the ECB Executive Board could undermine President Mario Draghi, though any kind of public fall-out between senior members of the institution has not yet occurred.
