Access limited to secret TTIP documents in Luxembourg
Luxembourg parliamentarians will soon have the opportunity to peruse the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership--but only under certain rules and conditions, which will be explained on Tuesday in parliament.
(NG/stb) The Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP) has been fiercely debated since it entered the public spotlight throughout negotiations. One of the factors working against was a lack of transparency, according to opponents.
Now Luxembourg parliamentarians will have the opportunity to peruse TTIP documentation--but only under certain rules and conditions, to be explained on Tuesday in the Chamber of Deputies.
What is clear so far is the following: only deputies will be able to see the documents. Members of the general public and civil society still have no access.
Even colleagues of the parliamentarians are not authorised to enter the reading room. And before deputies can view the documents, they must confirm they have understood the established rules and complied with certain conditions.
Electronic devices are prohibited in the reading room, and only handwritten notes may be made.
