By 2015 a new brewery is set to be built on the site, which was acquired by investor group Saphir Capital Partners in 2010. The new brewery will be significantly smaller than the old one, allowing for the construction of housing and a park area.
Some of the historic buildings on the 2.5 hectare area will be torn down, with many other buildings to be renovated and refurbished. Between 200 and 300 residential units are planned for the project, with the Diekirch town council insisting on an open plan outline accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.
An underground car park with 520 spaces is still awaiting technical approval.
Construction plans have been filed with the commune and the state, and the project is awaiting planning permission.
